Does anyone else use Dreamwidth? I've been posting there for almost a year and it has been pretty fun and nostalgic/definitely has helped me start getting back into a more creative and focused brainspace.

Oooh. I've never heard of this and it sounds interesting (and you have so much STUFF on your account!), but I'm a little reluctant to manage another account somewhere before finding out more. How's it different from other spaces and what (specifically) do you like about it?

Totally fair! It's basically a Livejournal clone and I think was a place where a lot of people migrated back when the mass exodus from LJ happened. Potential positives: -It is quiet and low pressure -No algorithm -No infinite scrolling -Better commenting system than most modern social media -Emphasis on posting your own art/thoughts/whatever over reblogging -Compact and reliable privacy settings
-Adult content is allowed if that's your bag -Nostalgiaaaa Potential negatives: -It is...VERY quiet. Like, not many people there. Would not be a good place if self promotion and/or making a lot of new friends is the goal. -Many communities are abandoned -Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this but I don't think the privacy settings are as robust as they were on LJ. -No reblogging means you don't get as much variety -No "like" feature -If you don't get in the habit of checking I can see it being difficult to remember since updates from people are generally pretty sparse. That's all I can think of for now. As for personal reasons I like it, I have found that I get overwhelmed and a little paralyzed by modern social media and it's been a benefit to give my brain a break from those sites. I also just like having a semi-public journal where I can post art for public display and little thoughts or life updates here and there in private. It's also nice to read about what's going on with friends in a more in-depth way than is really possible on Tumblr or whatever. I find that I personally am just better able to be present for people in that kind of an environment. Again, I realize I'm promoting basically a dead website xD no pressure at all. Just putting it out there since it seems like people here are interested in older methods of online communication and it has been a little bright spot for me for a bit

Here's my dreamwidth!Though I haven't been using it as much lately, ahh. Well, that's not true. I do use it. I check/read my feed! But I haven't been making entries as often as I'd like. Gotta get back into it. I definitely like it for the reasons grinn mentioned (some of the same reasons why i like forums, too). it's more centric on communication and less about re-posting stuff/memes/doing the numbers. I like that everything on my feed was written/created by the person who posted it, etc. And the slow pace is nice. even if i only check it once a week I still feel like I've caught up and not missed anything which is awesome. if i don't check tumblr for a week, forgeddabouddiittt. also, yes, nostalgia. i used to love LJ so much. ;;

I went back on mine after chatting with Grinn a few months ago. It really reminds me of the best parts of LJ, which is great.
