Yeah, post the sketches here! I sure hope I didn't mess that up! There are only 5 artists participating but yet I feel convinced I must have botched it somehow, haha. I dunno how anyone ever did it with so many people... I used an online "raffle bowl" to pick who would draw for who, but if there is an easier way feel free to enlighten me, haha. This is all still in the development stage... Anyhow, YE! Post the arts here! edit: maybe having one thread for all the art is too confusing? i forget how we did it back in the day. forum organization is... interesting. anyhow!!

For Ray- I did an Ellie! I so very much wanted joining art trades again to be... well, doable, and the temptation to absolutely WRECK myself doing perfect lines existed. But! the sketchy-yet-entirely-recognizable-and-charming quality of your references gave me tacit permission to do this in a way that felt sustainable in terms of effort, but also in a way I felt proud of presenting.
She was a ton of fun to draw, and doing techy/more contemporary-looking/less organic stuff is a growing edge for me, so it was an enjoyable challenge too. I really wanted to draw her fixing something, and I keep imagining her in this scruffy, makeshift, thrown-together workshop-type setting, so I tried to keep elements of that
I hope you like her! <3

This looks great, ahh, I love it! I've been kinda struggling with her lately and I feel like this drawing really aces her. The setting is also perfect; her ship is kind of a catch-all of junk and tools and techy things, haha. Also the hammock is a perfect touch. The expression on her face is great, too. She looks very determined yet kinda happy, like she's enjoying the challenge of the repair. And I really love the hunched posture, it suits the action and matches the expression on her face. xd I completely love this and it is definitely gonna help me hone my vision of Ellie. AND your sketching is amazing! Thanks Temiel!!

Ahh I love it! Her determined expression and body language are totally perfect. I really like your line quality too. It has such a nice weight to it without losing any dynamism.

For Temiel - Skara. I love your character so much Molly, they are a MOOD and they are awesome. I am working on embracing the messiness of my sketches, but I may need to do a more clean version of them at some point. Hope you like!

OH MY GOSH OH MY GOODNESS THEY ARE SO PRETTY and I gotta say, the armor/dress combo is. Well. It's just. I CANNOT handle that level of Fashion!!! I'm now really wanting to draw that myself. (Warrior princet for the win!!) Their face is SO perfect, and I'm loving all three versions!! Just... oh. My beautiful baby. The embroidery trim on the sleeves and the hem!! And that CIRCLET. I am just dying over here. I'm flailing all over with glee! These are beautiful, and while a clean version *might* be gilding the lily, I'm 1) not opposed to a gilded lily and 2) ALWAYS in favor of more Apis art of my sweet baby. This is hopefully coming across as the "most no-strings-attached, no-obligation-whatsoever request/expression of enthusiasm" that it is. MAN it's nice to get trade art again! It's been SO MANY YEARS and I'm tempted to return to the keyboard mash of old, but keeping myself reasonably disciplined so that my comments will both make sense and be meaningful and not sound perfunctory, because they are *most assuredly not.* This has given me Life today. Thank you SO much for drawing them so beautifully. I feel like they, too, would be most pleased, and that is a HIGH compliment

I was rather excited to have an excuse to draw them, they are just so fabulous. High compliment indeed that they too would approve! I am really happy that it brought you joy, and there will probably be a cleaned up version as I get itchy hands from sketch lines. Plus then I get to break out my inking pens and I'm fairly shaky with digital inking, heh. <3

Apis- yours is so beautiful and detailed! I really like the pose you chose, they look so thoughtful and ethereal.
Here's mine for you! Hope I did him justice. I haven't drawn in a little while and this was a great way to shake off the rust :')

Sarah, DAYUM! That horse! I have so much love for a well-drawn horse, and Eihall looks just... dishy. (Do the kids say "dishy" anymore? Probably not. But it's a compliment. ) Very lovely, very lovely. The lines are delightful, and your anatomy is so beautifully proportioned!

Um, OMG Sarah!! Eihall looks spectacular, and you added his mount too!!! I am always in awe because I can't draw horses to save my life but they are such spectacular creatures- and for Eihall in particular such a sense of connection, identity and later loss is tied to his mount and his clan. You did such an incredible job with all the details- I love Eihall's wistfulness and strength and the ease with which he connects to his horse, They look so well matched to one another and I can see them now in the plains in younger days. I'm pretty sure Eihall still dreams of moments like these!! You even braided the tail and it just matches Eihall's braids so beautifully!! This made my day so much, aaaah!! ( and Tem, I'm absolutely calling him dishy) Love it all so much!! Thank you for taking on my baby and make him look so amazing!

Thanks you guys :') it was really fun. I like drawing horses a lot. I'm glad that it feels like he has a bond with his mount, from what I've heard from people who interact with horses a lot that's important.
(Also glad you find him dishy xD <3)

I kinda couldn't resist including both Spike and Lantana and I also couldn't resist at least implying some glowing colors because dang, I miss drawing bioluminescent things, I guess??? haha. And now I imagine a planet where Calanthra live in the ocean and sparkledogs live on land. Ah yes, a wonderful place. xD ahh Apis, yess. I agree that the pose is very peaceful yet regal, and they're expression matches that body language perfectly. They're facial structure is also really nice!! And the costume, hell yes. I wanna draw it too, now. xd And Sarah ugh how the heck, horses. Not to mention horses combined with human figures and having it all look natural. Shoot, man (seconding that I can't draw a horse to save my life). I love how you can imply so much detail even in your sketches. also drawing armor like that. you both scored the armor. dang armor. and horses. fine, make it look easy ugh ok. :> Attachments:

Ray, I am DYING for this lighting! What an absolutely adorable picture with *both*! Spike is a complete sparkledog KING here. The wingalings! The Calanthra tail! The sweet little Lantana face peeping out of the water! (Never mind my copious exclamation points; it's that charming a drawing. <3)

Thanks, Ray . I have a big collection of reference photos of jousters and people in larp armor which helps with this kind of thing. Your drawing is so sweet;; I love the colors so much. The blue ambient glow is kind of genius and gives it this gorgeous dreamlike quality. Agreed that Lantana's face peeking up out of the water is really sweet. I also like that the shape of the moon is echoed in Spike's tail. It's kind of like we're seeing the moon go through different phases which gives it a cool out-of-chronological-time feeling.

Ray - Oh no! It's Perfect! I love so much about this, especially how peaceful it looks. You captured his face so so so so well, he has an 'incorrect' face for a poodle (too broad at the jaw line, making his muzzle look short for a pood) and it is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE things about him. I'm really impressed you captured that, I'm not sure if it's something you consciously noticed or if you just subconsciously picked up on it but it's amazing. I really like the composition of the image as well, Lantana's shape curving in a way that continues the flow of motion from Spike is super satisfying! Thank you so much!
Sarah - the amount of details in this picture really are astounding, I can hear the creak of leather and the flapping of those embellishments on the reigns, maybe it's the way the character is looking back- it seems like they heard something behind them and makes me want to listen to.
Uneide - I love the peaceful pose here, the draping fabric is done so nicely! Very elegant sketch overall that fits the character nicely.
Tem - I just love this so much, the picture overall seems so playful. The pose, the music, the expression - it all gives the sketch such a great sense of personality. I feel like at any minute they are going to get frustrated and throw that thing across the room, or be successful and jump up triumphantly. You can really feel the movement there would be in the image with the swinging of the hammock thingy they are on, the pushback from the character's feet and the twisting motion of their wrist. The image itself feels alive

For Grinn - You know that thing when you wake up in the middle of the night and you see someone foreboding standing in the corner of your room, but it turns out to only be a chair with a jacket on it and light reflecting off of a button? Jackal's description reminds me of that. So much of them replaced with mechanical and virtual parts that are we really seeing a person or is the light just hitting it right?

Ray - That is amazing! Your picture is filled with so much joy and the lighting is simply gorgeous. Seeing those two interact just brings a smile to my face... I can picture Lantana being intrigued by this most fabulous creature! Love the bio luminescence so much!!
Lizspit - WOW!! The moodiness of the scene and Jackal fitting into the landscape in a way that makes you do that double take is fantastic. Love the eerie light!
Can I just say seeing all the trades this week just made my day/ week. I've really missed geeking out over people's characters and art. <3

Liz - I actually didn't realize I managed to capture the uniqueness of his face! I'm glad I did, though. I was kinda thinking more along the lines of "man, drawing a dog to look like a specific dog is tough I hope this looks like him at all.." hehe. So it's very cool to hear that it does. And dang, that drawing of Jackal is really something. I love your description and interpretation. The drawing really captures that and creates a feeling of existential questioning, maybe? It's also so atmospheric. Ahh yess. You've said so much with a simple drawing and I love that.
Thanks for your comments on my drawing, everyone! I appreciate all of them. hehe wingalings. I never thought of the moon/tail connection but now I see it. xd
Ahh, yes, apis! I agree, doing this little trade was really awesome and fun. I can't wait to do more! :>

Liz - Oh my god I love this so much ;;. You did so much with the environment and moody lighting and everything. It's definitely giving me ideas to try out for that character/story and motivation to work on it so thank you for that. The sense of quiet foreboding is really well expressed. I think even under the best of circumstances, someone who is vaguely kept alive with machine parts is bound to be creepy, particularly at night/in shadow. I like that she's surrounded by machines and scrap metal. It highlights the question of how much is she an object at this point I think. You drew her really well and added so much detail ;; aahh I love the glowing eye and that she's mostly backlit with little hints of light around the edges. It's really cool. Thank you so much!
I am also looking forward to doing more sketch trades! I'm puuumped ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
