Lets have a boring casual conversation. I'm feeling bored and casual.
I'm drinkin my coffee, watching tiktoks while my youngest dog systematically destroys things around the house because the cat chased a mouse two days ago and young poodle believes with all her heart that she WILL CATCH IT. Driving to agility practice with my collie in a bit before going to work. How's your morning going?
I'm definately going to do it! I'm going to compete in rally-obedience this spring, Rocket Ship knows all of the commands very well. The problem is that he will absolutely not perform if i don't have a treat in my hand. It's maddening, but one of my trainers is helping me with a trick for that. Essentially from now on I will carry the treat in my mouth and spit it at his big dumb face instead of handing it to him, that way in the right he won't KNOW I don't have a treat, he'll think it's just in my mouth. I truly need to buy treats that are not vile.
Oh , my employee is bringing two of the dogs we use for competition practice into work today so we can prep their coats and refine our competition trims, I'm looking forward to that! The one I use is named Dizzy, he's such a sweet guy , and if the breeder ever agrees to give him up we will absolutely be purchasing him as a shop dog . That's a whole other thing.
The New England Groom show was super disappointing this year, completely gutted that we were not able to compete. It really needs an ethics committee if not a complete overhaul of the registration system. Can you believe they changed the signup days "To accommodate groomers on the west coast who were attending Super Zoo" and then bypassed all the groomers on the wait list and gave the free competition spots to established groomers who had big name sponsors? It's really disheartening.
AAAAnyhow, depression has been very obnoxious lately. I'm still getting most of the stuff done that i have to do, but i'm going to bed at 5pm because... i dunno.. just can't think of a good reason to be awake? My brother bought me Planet Zoo so that I would stay up late playing video games, apparently it was bumming him out that I went to bed so early. Maybe i'll get back into Dead by Daylight, do you want to play Dead by Daylight with me some time?
Well, I'm going to go make another cup of coffee before agility class. Have a nice day!

Let's do it!! haha. I like feeling bored and casual.
That morning sounds fun, in a way. Or like, amusing in the way that a person who loves their dog can appreciate. It reminds me of how my old dog Rain would remember that a tennis ball rolled under something last week and is now continually searching for it at odd hours, sometimes destructively, and sometimes loudly, haha.
What is "in-rally"??? it sounds very cool. I have this feeling one of my dogs (Taro) would be great at the agility training (the one where they run through tunnels, and dart between poles). Wow, interesting idea with the treat in mouth... hmmm...
Is a shop dog one that hangs out in the shop?? Also, share photos of your grooms, if you want!! They're dope and its an interesting glimpse into a cool career. I don't know anyone who does this but you.
Damn, sorry to hear about that groom show. That is disheartening... they're cutting out tons of talented people by cherrypicking those with sponsors. grrr. Start an underground groom show called X-Groom. >:d
I know that feeling... I mean going to bed early because... hell... yeah. Even doing enjoyable things feels like pointless work. Man, sorry to hear you're dealing with that now. What's dead by daylight? Definitely a possibility of something to try out!! My current game is ESO, which is a nerdy MMORPG. But I mean, my character FINALLY rides a giant wolf, so.... I can't quit now....
I know this is from yesterday (I was hella messing with mad shit or I would have probably responded) but I hope youre having a good day TODAY!! And that the training class went well!!

Rally-Obedience is a very boring sport, lol. It's not at all flashy like agility, agility is super fun! Rally-O is keeping your dog in a heel position (hopefully with some high stepping) while you walk through a course of signs. Each sign has a command on it, for example the dog might circle the owner, then you both continue walking. Or you might about face while your dog walks behind you to get into heel on your left side. Or the dog lays down while the handler walks around them, then they continue the course. It's a lot of training for behaviors you want in the real world... mostly heeling. I started it with Rocket Ship for a few reasons, but a big one was that it is a stepping stone to Rally-Freestyle, freestyle heelwork to music or, as some call it, Doggy Dance. WHICH IS VERY FLASHY AND FUN!!
You should totally get into an intro to agility class. It's such an easy sport to get into, people are super duper supportive and it is almost entirely positive reinforcement trainers.
Yup, a shop dog is one that comes to the shop every day! None of my dogs are suitable because they all have personality quirks that aren't a good fit for being there every day.
Haha, so funny you mention that about starting my own underground groom show, cuz I did. XD I just hosted it the day before halloween !
What is ESO? Tell me more about this MMORP! I mean... riding a giant wolf... i could understand not wanting to step away from that right yet.
Dead by Daylight is an asymetric horror game based on old B horror movies. 4 players against 1 killer. single one off matches. Fix the generators to escape before you and all your friends get hung up on meat hooks . You know, a cozy game.

In that case, Rally-obedience sounds extremely useful even if it isn't extremely exciting. If I could get my dogs to heel and listen like that I'd feel pretty accomplished and also I'd feel a lot safer when walking around with him on leash or off. All of my dogs have been hounds and they are insanely motivated by following the nose to the point that I'm almost convinced it's impossible to teach them not to. Rally obedience sounds like it would be perfect for them, haha. And wait, what is that you say, DOGGY DANCE? How did I not know this was a thing? I'm about to go down a youtube rabbit hole, thank you.
Hell yeah about the groom show, that's so cool!! How did it go, did a lot of people enter? Were there prizes? Organizing things always feels very overwhelming to me so that's really awesome. Also it sounds really fun, haha.
ESO is elder scrolls online! It's basically just skyrim, if you ever played skyrim or have heard of it. you can play it solo quite easily and i often do, just run around taking quests and completing storyline stuff. you can group up with others to do quests, or dungeons or mini games like capture the flag. it's just kind of a fun thing to mess with now and then. and yes, the wolf, muahahaa. though there are many mounts. like, there's some kinda buff phoenix that runs on all fours with wings?? man i dunno. it's wacky. there are also cat people which is neat.
now that you mention it i feel like i have heard of dead by daylight before. i think i've watched some people play on youtube and it does look really fun, hahaha. if not mildly stressful, but in a FUN way.

Doggy dance on youtube is amazing. Let me know which ones you found! There's this one with a russian trainer and her Newfoundlander.....
Yes, rally-O is great for dogs who need better recall or are tempted to go adventuring. My Collie was super duper flighty as a pup, and 6 or 7 of the collies that came from the same situation as him ran away within the first month of being adopted so we were very proactive with his training. Nose work is also an option for your dogs, it sounds like. I'm not sure if it would encourage them to follow their noses MORE or if it would create an outlet for them and train them to be more responsive to commands WHILE listening to their nose. It's certainly worth looking into though.
Oh yes, I'm familiar with Skyrim. That's a dangerous game , the kind of game that makes me irresponsible. I want to see this phoenix running on four wings though, i'm gonna look that up.

this one definitely blew my mind: there's a part where they both spin around in unison, but they're kinda far away from each other. for some reason, even though it seemed simple, it just looked really impressive and cool. i dunno, all this blows my mind, haha. i've never trained a dog nearly to that level and i imagine it's very fun and awesome and really creates a very cool bond between the dog and person. i searched for the russian one and I think I found it. the little hops. the hops!! i mean i've done enough dog training to really appreciate this and how much time goes into it. i don't think i even knew what the possibilities were until watching some of these, so that's awesome. nose work sounds like the perfect combination of words for them, haha. i will look into this and see what comes up. they definitely love to sniff things out. but yeah, adding commands to that might be the ticket. this videos proves that hounds can do it: i just realized you might really appreciate one of the pets i have in ESO...

oh man, that first video gave me chills at the end. Distance work is SOOOOOO impressive! And yes, if you saw little hops , then you probably saw the Newfy Dance I'm talking about. omg, it's so cute, and i love seeing a big slow dog doing dog dance. All of those dogs in the circus act were so good, I'm super impressed with the daschund though! That was some slick, tight work from a breed that is considered to be very hard to train!
If RocketShip and I get our routine down better I'll send a video. It won't be nearly impressive as these though , lol.
I do really appreciate that skeleton dog. Every year someone tries to get me to do a skeleton poodle design. One of these years I'm going to cave in and do it!

Most of the grooming competitions I compete in are in October and April , so my boy Spike needs to be in full, natural coat for Halloween season, and I don't think 6 months would be long enough to grow coat back out for the spring competitions. My younger poodle, Sparkle, I could do it with but she's only a year and half now. This year it would have been too much patience to ask of her, I feel, for a full body color work. I'll see how she progresses over the next year and maybe we can do it next Halloween. She loves being on the grooming table, so I imagine she'll be pretty chill with it.
I'm going to skip the spring competitions this year (I think.... ) So I have some plans for colorwork grooms on both of them once they have a more substantial amount of growth. For right now though they are both in 1/2inch short coats so we can enjoy some low maintenance months for the first time in 2 years.
So here's a question, sense exploring Freestyle Heelwork To Music (Doggy Dance) , are you now envisioning routines every time you listen to a song you like ? XD

That is a very practical situation that I imagine most people don't consider! That is, the growing back of the hair! You need hair in order to cut hair! I was going to ask how long it takes to grow back, but I guess it takes longer than 6 months! I've only ever had short-haired shedding dogs. ;;
Yeah, pretty much. I guess the more doggy dance you watch the more you get a feel for what is possible. I could find myself imagining fantastical things, but then wondering... how the heck could you train a dog to do such things? I am still mesmerized by the synchronized spinning at a distance. And I'm imagining like, multiple dogs involved, and how over the top it could possibly get. Do you have a favorite routine on youtube?

The Russian Newfy is my favorite, even though it's not intense at all. I really like 'off breed' examples in most sports, like that video you posted with hounds. There is an Italian competition that had a really nice military routine as well that I like to watch, it's very narrative! I am so bad at training distance work with my dogs, lol. There are 2 ways to start (that I know of) One option putting up an object (a cone if you have one, or a chair, laundry basket, anything like that) and teaching your dog to go around it, then slowly start asking for the behavior from a step back, then two steps, then three etc. etc. until you've taught your dog to work away from you. The other way is with pedestal work, that's what Rocketship and I do a lot of because he likes it. Teaching your dog to put their paws up on a pedestal (we use an upside-down feed bucket) Then you can work in distance, it's always easier if they have a target. I don't know if we'll ever get to those impressive points, but it's fun to try anyhow. What training have you done with your dogs? professional classes or for-fun in home stuff? AKC has a "Trick Dog" Title that is very easy to earn if you are ever interested in something like that. I personally hate filling out paperwork, so we test on it , earn the title, and never receive it because executive disfunction

The marching in that one is so dang cute, and the push ups/exercises. i love it, haha. the extent of my training is just at home stuff, silly things like handshake and lay down and getting their attention. I'm working on "quiet" and good leash walking now, so that shows you how basic we are, haha. But even basic things can feel difficult, so watching advanced training is really inspiring. Trick dog sounds cool and kinda do-able, maybe? One of my dogs is very attentive and eager to please, so I think training her with more advanced stuff would come naturally. My other dog is... well... I'm actually convinced she is part coyote, no joke or exaggeration. it's a little harder to train her regardless, she just isn't looking tp me for direction like my other one does. But I bet Taro would be honored to be known as a trick dog! And she'd probably enjoy the process. I just saw this mindcraft dog on tumblr... is it real? xD www.tumblr.com/acacia-propaganda/699577088495255552/this-is-what-itd-look-like-if-minecraft-added-dog?source=shareAttachments:

They are very fun to play with ! But that 'cube head' thing is something they teach in japan I think, it's not the end result actually! The idea is to simplify a round head for people by having them do a square, then cut off the corners. Of course, some of the photos leaked and people started saying "look at this new trend!" , and so now it IS a trend and groomers are seeing how square they can do it .
